Wonderful eateries to try in town

Stellenbosch is known for its food and cafe culture. If you haven’t tried these establishments yet, go and visit them. You might just find a new favourite spot and of course some delicious food!

Cafe Casanova

Located where the old Verbatim bookshop was, Cafe Casanova is labeled as a caffee and pasticceria (selling pastries and baked goods). Guests can sit inside the tea room or outside overlooking bustling Dorp Street. The design inside is beautiful, with wooden floors, comfortable red seating, and framed mirrors and portraits. Visit for some coffee and a variety of pastries and cakes.

Open every day from 8am – 7pm.

Jack’s Bagels*

Finally a good bagel shop in town, Jack’s Bagels are truly delicious. Choose from a variety for either take-home or sit down: plain bagels, chocolate chip, sesame seed and more. You can also order your bagel with fillings and toppings. Well-priced and fresh – it’s a must. Don’t forget your coffee or freshly squeezed juices. Have a look at their menu.

Open Monday – Friday 7h30 – 4pm, Saturday 7h30 – 2pm, Sundays 7h30 – 1pm.

Holy Dough*

Cleverly named, Holy Dough is all about wood-fired pizza. You can find them on the corner of Dorp and Piet Retief Street. Their menu is filled with the classics, or build-your own options. Find their menu here

Open every day from 12pm – 9pm.

Cafe Furlough

Located at 86 Dorp Street, Cafe Furlough focuses on creating a space of calm, while offering wholesome food and drinks. They’ve got a delicious breakfast and lunch menu. Do try their Croque Monsieur or one of their many salads and bowls. They also serve fresh fruit and vegetable juices that promise to nourish. The following quote from their menu aptly catches what Cafe Furlough is all about:

Rest time is not waste time. It is economy to gather fresh strength. Wisdom to take occasional furlough. We shall do more, by sometimes doing less.” — Charles Spurgeon

Open weekdays from 7:30 – 16:00 and weekends from 8:00 – 14:00.

Do also look out for De Vrije Burger’s new sit down space in Drostdy Street!
