Local business in the spotlight: Okasie

Local business in the spotlight: Okasie

To help support local businesses, we will be featuring a local business each week in our series ‘Local in the spotlight’. This week we’re focusing on Okasie.

Their slogan goes, “The best kept floral secret”, which is luckily not true anymore: Okasie has become a staple in the Stellenbosch community – and beyond.

Open since 1999, Okasie is the brainchild of Chris Willemse (Head of Finances & Business Administration) and Dané Erwee (Head of Production & Creative Genius). Chris is a trained horticulturist while Dané is a landscape designer. Their expertise is incredibly varied and with their team they offer:

  • Selling of flowers (at their shop and also online)
  • Decor and flowers for weddings & corporate events
  • Furniture hire
  • Creative installations
  • Product design

With their experience and vision, they are considered trendsetters in our country’s creative circles. Working together with some of the best photographers, venues and event coordinators, there is no doubt why Okasie’s services are so sought-after.

What sets Okasie apart isn’t just their vast experience: as opposed to sourcing their flowers from suppliers, Chris and Dané have their own farm in Johannesdal (Pniel), where they are able to grow plants and flowers that offer much variety to their offerings. They are attuned to seasonal changes and incorporate that into their business. They also run a guesthouse on their working flower farm.

For those who have been to the Okasie shop at 85 Dorp Street, know the impressive design, decor, abundance of flowers and the incredible smell.

Head over to their website, www.okasie.co.za where you can browse their wide variety of bouquets and other services. Customers can also order farm-picked bunches, which are hand-picked and beautifully curated (order via info@okasie.co.za).
