Celebrating Mother’s Day

Celebrating Mother’s Day

On Sunday South Africa will be celebrating Mother’s Day. During this difficult time, we realise the importance of family and relationships. Though celebrating in lockdown might look different than before, here are some ways that you can still show your mom your love and appreciation.

1.Flowers are always a good idea.

You can either buy some at your local grocery store (and gift them personally if your mother is with you), or order them via local florists Flowers in the Foyer or Okasie and have them delivered to her doorstep.

2. A good (e)-book or magazine

Order online from Takealot or Loot, or for Kindle from AmazonHere are some top book recommendations:

You can also buy her a subscription to her favourite Afrikaans magazine or English magazine. if your mom is not a reader, maybe gift her with a Netflix or Showmax subscription (if she doesn’t have one already).

3. Make her favourite meal…

or order-in her favourite take-away (that she craved during lockdown 5.0).

Support local favourites, such as: De Cameron, De Warenmarkt, Bertus Basson’s Overture, De Vrije Burger, Somerbosch, Genki, and Basic Bistro.

Contact these establishments dirSCHOON | Eating. With Purpose.ectly or make use of the delivery companies UberEats or Mr Delivery to get your meal delivered.

If mom is not with you, have her favourite food delivered to her, and “share” a meal via video call. You can also set up a picnic in the garden, or if mom prefers, make her breakfast in bed (with some fresh pastries from Schoon). For some scrumptious recipes, visit Woolworths’ Taste website. The sweet-toothed can get in touch with Blush Bakery for some delicious sweet treats and beautifully crafted cakes

Lanzerac is making it super easy by delivering a delectable three-course meal so you can impress mom.

4. Express your gratitude

Mothers love to be shown appreciation and gratitude. You can show yours by making / buying a card, or perhaps create an e-card. You can get creative by recording a video message, or just give her a voice or video call. For some extra appreciation, take the load off her – do the chores around the house and let her relax.

5. Buy a gift

Buy something from her favourite clothing store, such as a scarf, or beauty products (hand cream or body wash). You can also buy her a store voucher, or a voucher for a spa experience, a hair salon visit, or a beautician visit.

Ever popular Babylonstoren is also a great option with their amazing collection of different scented candles, soaps, hand & body lotions, and hand & body washes. It comes beautifully packaged and delivered to you. Order online now.

It’s all about knowing your mom’s favourite things. If she likes getting creative, why not give her an experience at the Clay Cafe?

As an extra memorable gift, choose a special scene in your mom’s life and have it painted for her by artist Ydi Coetsee. All proceeds go towards a fundraising initiative for a local church – a great gift and a great way to do some good.

If you’re still coming up short with ideas – Takealot has got you covered, with gifts ranging from chocolates, to fragrances, tech products and homeware.

Whichever way you choose, the most important thing is that mom knows she is appreciated and loved.

*We sincerely sympathise with those whose mothers are not with us anymore.
