Your guide to the best spas in Stellenbosch

There’s nothing more rejuvenating than spoiling yourself to a spa day. Fortunately Stellenbosch is quite a hub for some rest and relaxation. Here are some of the best spas around:

Majeka House Spa

The 5 star boutique hotel has one of the most popular spas in town. With highly qualified therapists, guests are welcome to create a spa package to suit their needs. Their use of the  Africology product range is delightful. Guests can also make use of the hydrotherapy pools, such as the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. This spa is personal, intimate and great value for money. Try the Intonga Amasatchi: a massage using different yellow sticks to stretch tight muscles and help detoxification.

The Hydro

The Hydro gives you a feeling of a weekend getaway, based on its location tucked in a valley. Guests can come in for a day spa experience, or make a stay out of it. The spa is just one aspect of The Hydro: there is also a focus on mindfulness, movement and nutrition. Enjoy walks, the inside or outside pool, vegetarian meals from the kitchen and of course – spa treatments. Apart from the standard treatments, there are a lot of innovative therapies to choose from. Try the Thalasso therapy consisting of a salt-exfoliation, a soak in a jacuzzi bath filled with grape-based mineral rich water, and a lymph drainage.

Delaire Graaf

The Delaire Graaf estate is one of the most luxurious there is, and nestled in one of the most beautiful locations. It offers a tranquil sanctuary for guests. This spa is Afro-Asian inspired, and uses some exclusive ingredients, such as diamond dust and nano gold. For an African-themed treatment, go for the Terre d’Afrique Healing Fynbos and Mud Cocoon. It features an organic rooibos scrub, buchu and aloe mask, and a scalp and feet massage. In between your treatments, you can enjoy the 22 metre infinity pool, or their heated jacuzzi. Guests can also book a spa high tea on Fridays.

Babylonstoren

Named the Garden Spa, at Babylonstoren it is all focused on their impressive garden. The spa is set in a forest of bamboo and features a hammam room, chill room and hot spa. The hot spa encompasses a steam room and sauna, but also tropical rain showers and a salt room that is built with blocks of Himalayan salt. Since there are only a few spas in the country with an Hammam room, book yourself this ancient Turkish cleaning treatment aimed at maximum relaxation: enjoy a honey and sea salt scrub, with a relaxing steam treatment. Afterwards, lunch is available at the GreenHouse or get yourself a cold-pressed juice from the Juicery.

Lanzerac Spa

Set in this historic setting, the Lanzerac spa is world-class standard. This spa specifically  offers a Rasul ritual: a traditional therapeutic ceremony where an exfoliator plus face and body clay, is applied to the body in a designated Rasul room. There is also the usual sauna, jacuzzi and steam rooms, but also two mist rooms and their Vitality Corner: where wholesome dishes, smoothies and juices are served. Close enough to town, but still tucked away, the Lanzerac spa is always a good choice.
