In Stellenbosch and its surrounds, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to wine farms.
Just off Annandale Road, take a right onto the road that leads to Hidden Valley, but don’t stop there. For those that know, there is another spectacular wine farm further up the mountain.
The perhaps lesser known Uva Mira stands proud on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains, at 620 meters above sea level. The name Uva Mira is Latin for “The Wonderful Grape”. It is an apt name for this wine farm, which boasts 127 hectares.
It is exactly this position above sea level that gives Uva Mira wines their distinctive taste. The grape varieties on offer are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The best way to enjoy Uva Mira is to choose a cloudless day and drive up the winding roads until you see the beautiful Wine Tasting building. From there you can enjoy views of the Helderberg mountains, Stellenbosch mountains and False Bay.
Grab a spot outside, and decide on a wine tasting of either 3 or 5 of the best Uva Mira wines. Don’t forget their amazing cheese and meat platters that are the best accompaniment to your wine tasting. As you sip lazily on their multi-award winning wines, enjoy the view, the food and the elevated experience.
